“Scholé is undistracted time to study the things most worthwhile, with good friends, in a beautiful place, with good food and drink.”
— Dr. Christopher Perrin
Scholé (pronounced skoh-LAY) is a Greek word meaning restful learning. It describes a way of education marked by:
Undistracted time to study what is most worthwhile
Learning shaped by peace rather than pressure
Deep engagement with great texts and meaningful ideas
While the concept originated in classical Greece, it was deepened by the Christian tradition—particularly in monastic centers of learning—into an approach to education that is contemplative, ordered, and marked by Christian peace.
At Scholé Classical Collective, we seek to cultivate this atmosphere of restful, joyful learning. Because education is a lifelong pursuit, we aim not only to foster a love of great books and meaningful ideas, but also a peaceful posture toward learning itself. Students are encouraged to slow down, think deeply, ask questions, and engage in thoughtful discussion.
We believe that academic excellence does not require hurry or anxiety. Instead, we pursue learning in community, studying classical subjects together while allowing time to contemplate and explore the big ideas students encounter. This kind of deep engagement leads to meaningful understanding and a lasting love of learning.
